Your space weather for today:  A G1-class geomagnetic storm is underway on Feb 19th as Earth enters a minor stream of the solar wind. Even before the solar wind arrived, Earth's magnetic field was humming with energy because of a crack that opened for more than 8 hours on Feb. 18th. Solar wind poured in, setting the stage for today's storm.

A just-published scientific paper presents details of blasts of radio waves sent every 16 days from a nearby massive spiral galaxy. Are these radio waves, aimed in the direction of Earth, generated by aliens? Not only is the magnetosphere diminishing it is developing huge cracks allowing for strange atmospheric phenomena to commingle with deliberate atmospheric manipulations. 

MAGNETIC CRACK SPARKS RARE BLUE AURORAS: Yes, there really are cracks in Earth's magnetic field. One of them opened on Feb. 18th, sparking some of the strangest auroras in years.

First, the night sky turned blue over the Lofoten Islands of Norway:

"After the snow, sleet, and heavy wind all day, the clouds parted for a 2-hour display of spectacular pale green, blue, and purple auroras over the mountains of Reine," says photographer Matthew Steinberg.

Blue auroras are rare. Auroras are usually green, and sometimes red. Those are the colors produced by oxygen when it is excited by electrons raining down from space. Blue is a sign of nitrogen. Energetic particles striking ionized molecular nitrogen (N2+) at very high altitudes (> 400 km) produces a cold azure glow of the type captured in Steinberg's photo. Usually, the blue is faint, but on Feb. 18th it was strangely intense.

Next, the auroras turned green again. But they were strangely shaped. This was the view from Tromsø, Norway:

"I couldn't believe my eyes," says photographer Markus Varik, a longtime aurora tour guide who previously thought he had seen it all. "This strange rippling band formation unfolded overhead. It was so different than the usual auroral arcs. Truly magic! Let's hope for some more strange shapes tomorrow!"

The story of Easter Island—home to the famous moai monoliths—is a tragic one. But depending on the individual you ask, the harbingers of its early demise aren’t always the same.

In one version, the island—a remote outpost thousands of miles off the western coast of South America—was settled in the 13th century by a small group of Polynesians. Over time, the migrants papered the landscape, once rich with trees and rolling hills, with crop fields and monoliths. The transformation eroded the nutrient-rich soil, catapulting the island onto a path of destruction. As the trees dwindled, so did the people who had felled them: By the time Dutch explorers arrived on Easter Island in 1722, this early society had long since collapsed.

But in recent years, evidence has mounted for an alternative narrative—one that paints the inhabitants of the island they called Rapa Nui not as exploiters of ecosystems, but as sustainable farmers who were still thriving when Europeans first made contact. Other, lesser works can often be dated by history, or even the cultural ideas, that they contain. The Hebrew Bible is rich in that regard: monotheism, monarchy, sacrifice, priestly rivalries, momentous wars, and more. Experts Voice Concern About Drug Supply Chain, Safety During Coronavirus Epidemic. 

Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, is also a production hub for pharmaceutical ingredients for the United States. As the virus spreads throughout China, the US drug supply remains vulnerable to reduced production and export of essential materials. There are 400 drug manufacturers in China. This was the testimony of experts on Wednesday to the US Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee during a roundtable discussion entitled, “Are We Prepared? Protecting the US from Global Pandemics.” (Homeland Preparedness News, 2/14/20)

Social Media and Vaccine Misinformation

People who rely on social media for information were more likely to be misinformed about vaccines than those who rely on traditional media, according to a new study of vaccine knowledge and media use. Public Health News Alert: CMS Develops New Code for Coronavirus Lab Test.

CMS developed a new Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code for providers and laboratories to test patients for SARS-CoV-2. This code will allow those labs conducting the tests to bill for the specific test instead of using an unspecified code, which means better tracking of the public health response for this particular strain of the coronavirus to help protect people from the spread of this infectious disease.

Last Word

Our very survival depends upon acts of repentance (after our salvation).

In the Book of Isaiah 1:11-20, the Prophet Isaiah discusses Sodom and Gomorrah, and he then speaks about God’s view of our Holy Convocations that we mix with sin and idolatry.  He says something that I am sure that we have all felt at some point in our walk of faith, [God is speaking] My soul hates [these Holy Convocations], they are a burden to Me, I am weary of bearing [them]. In essence, the Holy One is saying that until now I have forgiven your transgressions.  However now, I am weary of forgiving, since the more I forgive you the more you sin. God has always been patient and forbearing with us but now that is in the past. His holiness demands He execute justice.

Before the Prophet delves into cataclysmic judgment the Lord impresses upon Him exhortations calling us to repentance. These actions help us to prepare for the Kingship of Jesus that is imminent.
