We are studying Haazinu, Deuteronomy 32, Song of Moses, to glean the precious nuggets to carry with us during our trek in the Wasteland of Wickedness.  Let us turn to the Holy Scriptures:

10 He  found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led  him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.

This is such an interesting verse that we fail to ponder.  Did God really not know where we were and “accidentally  found us in the howling desert?  This suggests that God was not  involved with His people which is not truth so we must banish this from  our thoughts.  Then how are we to understand this verse?  We can go to Jeremiah  2:2:  I remember the lovingkindness of your youth, the love of your  espousals, when you went after Me in the wilderness, into a land that  was not sown.  We can also look at verses that talk about found:

Hosea 9:10 and Psalms 107:35

Matzah (unleavened bread) is found.

Numbers 11:22 and Joshua 17:16 directs our attention that God, we found (find or discover), supplies our needs and gives enough during this trek in the Wasteland of Wickedness.

During this trek in the Wasteland of Wickedness we find that God provides:

  • Wells of Living Water (Jesus)
  • Meat (interesting because of the anti-meat agenda right now-so we can expect divine meat)
  • Clouds of Glory that envelop us (expounded upon in a mere moment)

11 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:

How precious are you to the Lord?  Let us discover some insights from this verse!

Jesus  is and will surround you literally, physically, and spiritual during  your trek through the Wasteland of Wickedness on our way to eternity  with Him.

Jesus  is going to instruct you precisely how to live and what is important in  these End Days.  Jesus is going to guard you as the pupil of His eye.

Just  as the Israelite's of old were surrounded by the Shekhinah Glory at the  base of Mt. Sinai you also will be surrounded internally through the  Holy Spirit and an external manifestation of the Clouds of Glory or Shekhinah Glory.  Wow, wow, wow!!!  This comes from the Hebrew word, y’soevenhu.

How are we to understand the pupil of His eye?   He is going to favor you His precious child in the same manner as a  precious part of His own eye.  If you want to avoid anthropomorphism God  Himself provides you the human with a built-in protective mechanism to protect the pupil or eye with lashes, eyelids and so forth.

We will discuss the eagle a little bit later but drill down on the brooding.  This simile stirs up Jesus  is going to guide you with mercy and pity like an eagle, which is full  of pity towards its young and does not enter the nest suddenly.   Although the Scripture is replete with the suddenness of redemption it  is actually a gradual  process, like one of those old-fashioned silent movie reels.  First,  the eagle beats and flaps with its wings above its young (this is what  we are experiencing right now).  She passes between trees, from branch  to branch, in order that the young may awaken and have enough strength  to receive what the nourishment that the eagle will provide.  Isn’t that  precisely what is occurring right now with many awakening to both the spiritual and physical ramifications of the scene before us?

Various commentators have varying opinions  where this brooding is:  hovering, brooding over (like a momma chicken  over her chicks), stirring up, or defending is used in the Septuagint.

Hovering over comes from the Hebrew word yerachef which is an action verb used in Genesis 1:2 meaning as blowing.

Therefore,  these Clouds of [protective] Glory will hover over you during your  wilderness trek, right now, my friends.  See the protection and glory of  Jesus during this time.  Use your spiritual eyes, can you see them?

12 . The  Lord alone will in the future make them dwell in the world that He will  renew in the future, and the worship of idols shall not exist before  Him.

So the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.

We  might understand this passage this way, that the Lone alone will guide  you [through the Wasteland of Wickedness] and that there will be no  alien god with you.  While the passage is talking about the leading of  the Children of Israel it also speaks to a time in the future where He  will guide that generation.  We are here my friends.  How will He guide  our generation?  In a world that He will renew in the future.  This will  be the Millennial  Kingdom and then the time afterwards, eternity with Jesus where there  will be a new heaven and earth for the old has passed away.

We understand that Jesus and the Holy Spirit will guide us  but we have our part that we must, as Christians undertake, and that is  to have no alien gods or the worship of idols.  Many things can be  idols, family, money, jobs, or medicine.  The Lord is providing us this  fleeting window of opportunity to dispense of any idols that we have fashioned as He prepares us for His kingdom and reign.

13 He  made him ride on the high places [strong places] of the earth, that he  might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out  of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock; He made them eat of the  spoil of their enemies.

While  this passage refers to Israel or Promised Land, we too, have a Promised  Land in our future.  In these days of hardships and difficulty we need  to keep this foremost in our minds.  Why?  Because the Divine Author  wants to ensure that we know His promises:

  • He will set us in the highlands, in scripture the place or refuge of safety.
  • He will provide for us the yield of the earth.
  • He will feed us honey from mountain crags representing purity and sweetness. He will bestow upon  us oil from flinty rock.  Oil is representative of the power of the  Holy Spirit and is also symbolic of Divine healing.  What is flinty  rock?  Something that's made of or contains flint, or hard silica rock, is flinty. Flinty  soil is rough and rocky, and not the best for planting a garden which  means this oil will be provided to us by God much as manna in the  wilderness was provided. Flinty  earth is studded with jagged flakes of flint, and the adjective is  often used in a figurative way to capture an equally rough and stony  mood or personality.  In contrast to the world, Jesus character is not flinty nor should we be flinty.  Remember:

26 A  new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you:  and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give  you an heart of flesh.  Ezekiel 36:26

There  are more promises of blessing and provision for us in mere seconds, but  caution is necessary for with our provisions there is a hidden snare!

He  gave them spoil over the rulers of the cities and the possessions of  them who dwell in strong defenses?  He gave them the spoil of their  kings and rulers with the riches of princes, and the strength of the  people of their land, their possession, with the booty of their hosts  and camps, and the blood of their heroes was poured out like water.

We  are witnessing and gathering in this abundance and prosperity right now  my friends.  Just as The Children of Israel were given wealth as they  departed Egypt, so too, are we being given provision for our trek  through the Wasteland of Wickedness.

14 Butter  of kine [cows], and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the  breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys [fat] of wheat; and  thou didst drink the pure [foaming grape] blood of the grape.

These provisions are one of the rewards of being a child of Jesus!

  • From one cluster of grapes you shall drink a kor of wine.  That is 230 liters.
  • Your grain kernels will be the size of oxen kidneys, which are immensely large.
  • One grape will produce a kor of wine, there will be no waste, you will receive full benefit.

You  might say to yourself, “I am not seeing these fabulous promises.”  I  look at my devastated indoor orchards with only their dead carcasses remaining and I think to myself, “This does not align with the Word.”  There is a passage in Isaiah that is pertinent to our day.  It is discussing Jesus, but we are His children and ought to emulate His character.  It says:

The  Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him—the Spirit of wisdom and  understanding, the Spirit of counsel and strength, the Spirit of  knowledge and fear of the LORD. And He will delight in the fear of the  LORD. He will not judge by what His eyes see, and He will not decide by  what His ears hear.

This is an invisible war my friends.  We cannot trust what our eyes see,  or our ears hear these days except for the Word of Holy Scripture and  the Holy Spirit.  Just because we do not see it or hear it does not mean  these promises do not exist.   Jesus wants to embrace radical faith and  believe the impossible, the reality of the supernatural.  If we have  the faith of a mustard seed, we can move mountains.

15 But  Jeshurun [Israel] waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art  grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which  made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

Here  the hidden snare of provision is revealed to us.  Let us make careful  note.   This message is directed to those who are upright in Jesus not  the masses of the world or fence-sitting Christians.  They prospered,  such as we are witnessing right now.  But the Word says they grew fat. The idea of prosperity comes from Jeshrun which means osher or wealth.  When we grow stong and acquired possessions the Bible says we can  become “fat, gross, and coarse.”  Consequently, we begin to become  complacent in our faith and rebel against Jesus because we are overindulging  in food, drink, and being at ease.  This is not lost on our adversary.   During the Novel Corona Virus people were locked in their homes and many people had no outlets other than to eat, drink and be lazy in their homes.  The Christian, on the other hand, was guided to enter the  chamber of the King of Kings to pray, search the Holy Writ, and do many  acts of great kindness.

Some  commentators also mention the acquisition during this time of gold and  silver.  Remember, metals do not save, they should not be an idol but  with them you may have certain blessings or opportunities afforded to  you that the person without will not have.

After  we have acquired all these promises and blessings what does the carnal  Christian do?  They forgot Jesus who made them and spurned the Rock of  their support.  Can we totally abandon God?  I am not certain of the  depravity that the human mind possesses, it is unknowable to man.  These  people who cry the name of Jesus forsake the wisdom of God, refuse to  worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, an deny fear and trembling of the  Almighty Who redeems them during their times a trouble, such as we are  now experiencing in greater intensity.

This unfurls many consequences  which we will explore next and it is not pretty for it deals with sacrificing to demons.  Jesus in His kindness gives us the good news before the bad news.  Stay tuned.

Blessings upon your day,

Celeste
