It is peculiar that the prophets of the Living God remain relatively silent overall concerning the thundering voice of God Who communicates His most intimate prophecies to them that must go forth unto the whole world. Only four prophets: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Amos, and Joel discuss the roaring voice of God. We have reached a time in history for you to join your voice with God's; to become as James, the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James- so named Boanerges, which means, Sons [and Daughters] of Thunder.
Time for a Voice
God has set eternity in [your] human heart and yet you cannot fathom what God has done from the beginning to end, Ecclesiastes 3:11
And do this, understand the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. Romans 13:11
But about that day or hour no one knows,not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. Mark 13:32-33
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews [your family] will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as thins. Esther 4:14
Jesus wants you to be His ambassador during these End Days. Each of you can express your voice through your giftings. Maybe you can teach or possibly evangelize? Faith Lesson: Today, I will lift up my voice for Jesus in some small way.
Language of the Grave
And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak [chirp in inaudible tones] out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.
Moreover the multitude of thy strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passeth away: yea, it shall be at an instant suddenly.
Thou shalt be visited of the Lord of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire.
And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.
It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion.
Act confused and be confused! Isaiah 29:4-9
We need to understand that time is cyclical and short for soon the prophecies begin to unfold. God speaks to His children through the prophet Isaiah that their enemies shall be brought down very low.
God uses the language of the grave to drive home His point:
- 'They will speak out of the ground [inaudible tones],'
- 'Thy speech shall below of the dust' [the imagery of the curse upon the serpent],
- 'Thy voice shall be a familiar spirit' [a generational spirit passed down through the generations unless cast out],
- 'One of the ground' [the dead spirits seeking habitation],
- 'And thy speech shall whisper out the dust' [not the Living Word, but cunning whispers by dead spirits].
God reveals that the strangers are those who are not the Separated Ones. These strangers will be counted as dust which has no value for being enumerated [such as God's people Whom He values and likens as sand and stars]. The terrible ones, such as Sennacherib and his armies, [tyrants and strong ones] are mighty that have plagued the past and our present. Though they amass before us in great numbers they shall pass away in a sudden instant. This sounds like it is right out of Isaiah 17. I think of the vast array of technology which threatens our very survival and God's voice will silence them and blow them away as chaff.
It is at this point that Lord of Hosts [angelic] visits His people as He did at Mt. Sinai with thunder and earthquake. The great noise [angelic, ram's horn, people] as He thunders His commanding Words. Some translations say people who opposed God at this time were punished by His thunder. You can imagine the awesome Voice of a Holy God certainly has that capability. The Almighty adds storm and tempest, and flames of devouring fire for those who dare claim their superiority.
It rather appears that as the nations gather to come against Israel [Ariel] that it is a multidimensional war as it appears as a 'dream of a night vision' or a 'dream'. God has His many dimensions at His disposal to confront His enemy. They will perceive satiation, but the reality is that when they stand before their Creator, they will discover that their satiation was as if in a dream.
Act confused and be confused! The prophet addresses his opponents, who refused to heed his rebuke or to stop and 'pause in wonder' at how the Assyrians were defeated. "Pause and wonder' why this punishment has befallen you or why you have abandoned true prophets in favor of false prophets of the time of Ahaz and Jezebel.
Faith Lesson: This week, I will stop to 'pause in wonder' exploring something outside of my comfort zone (normalcy bias).
Hymn about God's Greatness
Jeremiah takes time to ascribe power and might in song to God who was the originator of Creation compared to the powerlessness of Babylon's idols which were too weak to save her.
You were My war club, My weapons of battle. I smashed nations and destroyed kingdoms with you. I smashed horses and riders with you, chariots, and those who ride them. I smashed men and women with you, old men and youths, young men and young women. I smashed shepherds and their flocks with you, farmers and their teams, governors and officers. ...
When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, And He causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain And brings forth the wind from His storehouses. Jeremiah 51:16
In order to give a sound of the roaring of the waters in the atmosphere of the heavens, God brought up clouds from the ends of the earth to the height of the heavens.
The clouds appear to the eye to be at the bottom of heavens, at the end of the earth, then He brings them up opposite the place where He desires the rain to fall upon.
When God decides a particular region needs rain, He dispatches clouds to that place from the end of the horizon. The size and capacity of clouds do not determines how much rain should fall, but rather, God decrees how much rain should fall, and determines the size and capacity of the clouds.
Faith Lesson: I acknowledge that there are many scape-goats who I could blame for judgments coming upon the earth but I will ponder that there is no messenger, agent, emissary, or force that can operate UNLESS it is God's Will for it to occur or He allows it to happen as a consequence of sin.
Day of Slaughter
This is a 1 hour 30 minute exploration of the ancient memories within our various cultures of previous cataclysms and heavenly phenomenon playing out on earth and remembered in oral storytelling and etched in stone. There is One God. I am not advocating a pantheon of gods. I present this to you, so that you might 'pause and wonder'. For in varying degrees this will happen again, probably sooner, rather than later.
There will be channels and streams of water on every high mountain and lofty hill on the great day of slaughter, when the towers fall. The light of the moon will be like the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will [multiply] sevenfold, like the light of seven days, when God binds His people's wounds and heals the injuries they have suffered...
The sun multiplying is to be taken literally, spanning from ancient times to Messianic times.
Lessons of Light from the Electric Comet
like the light of seven days...of creation, when the light of the sun was much stronger than it is now. It will be seven-fold, like the light of seven days in one day. Some say it to mean 'seven by seven' or seven times seven times the light of seven days or in perspective, 343 times the light than it gives off now.
God will make His majestic voice heard. He will show His arm descending in furious anger, in a consuming blaze of fire, In cloudburst, downpour and hailstones. Isaiah 30:27-28 His anger is flaring, and the burden is heavy; His lips are full of rage and His tongue is like a consuming fire. His breath is raging…
When one is submerged up to his neck in a raging stream, he is powerless to withstand the sweeping current. Similarly, the Assyrian camp was almost entirely annihilated, only a small percentage remained alive proportion the body as a whole.
At the sound of the tumult peoples flee; At the lifting up of Yourself nations disperse [scatter at Your glory]. Isaiah 33:3
The noisy tumult resulting from Your miraculous Voice of assistance has and will once again cause the enemy to wander away aimlessly. This occurred with the Assyrians and will again, at the End of the Age.
Faith Lesson: My favorite bible verse about God's power is [fill this in] I see God's strength when I see [fill this in].
Roaring of the Almighty
"Therefore you shall prophesy against them all these words, and you shall say to them, 'The LORD will roar from on high And utter His voice from His holy habitation; He will roar mightily against His fold. He will shout like those who tread the grapes[those who shout to gather energy to stomp the grapes, allusion to the coming persecution and winepress], Against all the inhabitants of the earth. Jeremiah 25:30
The lion is the King of Beasts and therefore a symbol of human kings, and also the King of Kings. Sometimes this symbolism is positive and at other times we see God unleashing His destructive forces or overwhelming power. As the dominant predator, the lion is perfectly suited to being a naturalistic agent of divine retribution. There is no better way for the human mind to appreciate God and His nature:
The lion has roar, who shall not be afraid? The Lord God has spoken, who shall not prophesy. Amos 3:3
Then he said to him, :"Because you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord,behold, as soon as you leave me, a lion shall kill you." And as soon as he departed from him, a lion found him, and killed him. I Kings 20:36
As we see above it is not just one lion but He has many lions carrying His message forth.
Cries out with a loud voice. A stirring of the Almighty as come upon the end of the earth and is decreed upon all. He contends… It is as though He enters litigation with them to punish them for their evil and will deliver them to the oppressor.
Within the animal kingdom a lion may modulate his roar in volume and intensity. Roars are for many reasons:
- Proclaim ownership of territory, The young lions roared against him, they gave their cries, and they have made his land a waste, his cities are burned, without inhabitant. Jeremiah 2:15-This is a metaphor for foreign rulers and soldiers who conquered Israel.
- Imminent danger, The terror is like the roaring of a young lion; whoever provokes him to anger forfeits his life. Proverbs 20:2
- Signaling other lions to stay away, When he came to the vineyards of Timnath, behold, a young lion came roaring to meet him. Judges, 14:5
- Kings in a fight, The kings rage is like the roaring of a young lion; but his favor is like the dew on the grass. Proverbs 19:12
- Before a hunt, God shall go out as a mighty man, He shall arouse zeal,He shall cry, even roar, He shall prevail over His enemies. Isaiah 42:13
- Communication within their pride (community)
- To intimidate opponents, as it stands his ground, For thus has the Lord said to me: Like the lion and the young lion growling over its prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against it, it will not be afraid of their voice, nor be subdued by their mob; so shall the Lord of Hosts descend to fight for Mount Zion, and on it hill. Isaiah 31:4
- Strengthening bonds with the community
On the flip-side, God's enemies and the motif of death and destruction are also couched in the language of the lion such as:
Lest like a lion they tear my soul, rending it in pieces, while there is none to save. Psalm 7:3
My soul is among the lions; and I lie down among those who are set on fire, the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword. Psalms 57:5
In poetic metaphor, unlike within the animal kingdom, the Scriptures further describe the roar:
He has the roar like a lion; he will roar like young lions, and he will growl and seize his prey, and he will carry it away and none will rescue it. Isaiah 5:29
Referring to False Prophets:
There is a conspiracy of her prophets in her midst, like a roaring lion tearing its prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken treasure and precious things, they have made many widows in her midst. Ezekiel 22:25
Allusion to the mighty ones of Israel whose strongholds are shattered or anthropomorphically describing the lion roaring because its habitat was being destroyed:
There is a sound of the howling of the shepherds; for their glory is gone; a sound of the roaring young lions, for the jungle along the Jordan is destroyed. Zechariah 11:3
Metaphor for roaring God's reasons:
Does a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out from his lair, if he has caught nothing? Amos 3:4
The root of roar refers to the three heavenly watches of the night, representing three different sounds. Night refers to the darkness which is coming for which there will be three watches and symbolize persecution, 'religious' executions, and expulsions. Although a lion is not mentioned the verb is often used in Scripture to refer to the roar of a lion Amos 3:4,8 and Ezekiel 22:25.
God calls the nations to come and destroy can also mean God's cry of grief.
Faith Lesson: What does it mean to you when you hear God roar? Maybe you have never heard God roar, how do you think you would react?
Will the great Day of the Lord turn earth into a planet like Mars?
The LORD utters His voice before His army; Surely His camp is very great, For strong is he who carries out His word The day of the LORD is indeed great and very awesome, And who can endure it? Joel 2:11
The Almighty has already announced through His prophets of His army of locusts in order to arouse the populace to repent. He has proclaimed that the hosts He has employed to carry out His will are both numerous and mighty, a formidable force, and no one will be capable of withstanding their onslaught.
This roar goes out from Zion and which the nations stilled and He will emit His voice over their destruction.
The LORD roars from Zion And utters His voice from Jerusalem, And the heavens and the earth tremble But the LORD is a refuge for His people And a stronghold to the sons of Israel. Joel 4:16
God will be acting alone apart from the celestial court. This phrase is to portend a total upheaval.
From Jerusalem, Zion, the dwelling place of the Divine Presence shall come the Almighty with a mighty roar which will cause all nations to tremble violently in fear. According to some, this is the roar of God's judgment which will passed upon to the nations. This judgment will manifest His rulership over creation as depicted as a proclamation of that rulership. In Zion, His Presence is more intense and that proclamation will be like a mighty roar. In the rest of Jerusalem it will be of a lesser intensity, comparable to a quieter sound.
because of Zion...the Almighty will let out a roar in reaction to that which the nations did to Zion and Jerusalem. Specifically, He will roar mightily in response, His voice goes out from Zion, which they had stilled, and He will emit His voice. At this, all of creation will be gripped by an overwhelming fear of will be trembling. Almighty, as if the heavens and earth themselves. It can also mean the angels over nations in the heavens as well as the nations. A great earthquake is prophesied depicted in Ezekiel and Zechariah.
He said, "The LORD roars from Zion And from Jerusalem He utters His voice; And the shepherds' pasture grounds mourn, And the summit of Carmel dries up." Amos 1:2
From the Holy of Holies in Jerusalem, the Almighty makes His voice heard to the prophets and communicates [roar] to them His prophecies.
Amos lives amidst a nation steeped in sin.
One view is a prophecy of a great punishment which the Almighty shall bring down upon the nations. In Amos, it appears as though God is acting alone where in contrast with Joel where God is acting with His celestial court in dispensing justice, and Final Days of Judgment.
The drying refers to a great drought in the Land of Israel and especially the fertile area around Mt. Carmel. The animals and trees will die as a result.
Metaphorically speaking, those who come to graze [consume] Israel shall be destroyed.
Some believe that this is a continuation of the first verse where Amos accurately predicted the great earthquake in the times of Uzziah as well as the drought that came with it two years prior to its occurrence.
The Almighty makes His voice heard through the prophets and communicates to them His prophecies.
Amos described the intensifying calamities before God reaches His anger.

Arrival Time Has Come
But do not forget this one thing, dear friend: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:8-9
Now,brothers and sisters,about times and dates we do not need to write to you for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come upon them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. I Thessalonians 5:1-3
Everything in our world contains a spark of life, a voice from God. This is the glue which enables everything to exist. Physical dimensions and substance of the material world are the clothing and a covering of this ethereal God particle [the elements] which contain God's essence. God sends life to us and through it to entire surrounding structure of Creation.
Son and Daughter of Thunder: your voice, your spark, is a marker recalling and testifying to God and His eternal celestial world that Jesus is the Source of Life.
